– Since last year, more than 30 American states have expanded access to preschool, but many questions remain unclear concerning what children need to learn during the early years. On the other hand, there is a lot of evidence that what is taught to preschoolers is of capital importance – math before all.

– Why math? According to a 2013 study by Greg Duncan, a renowned professor of education at the University of California (Irvine), the level of kids’ maths skills when they enter elementary school is the most important factor in predicting their future success or failure in high school and college. Paradoxically, there is an incredible lack of math teaching in preschool. The study showed that, out of a whole five-hour preschool day, only 58 seconds! were devoted to math activities.
