– Nobel price-winning economist James Eckman said it’s important to invest public funds to support developmental programs for young children and their families. Advice that may be best taken in consideration in Canada where according to the Canadian Institute of Health Information, as many as 26% of Canadian kids still suffer from communication, language, cognition, social, emotional or physical problems. Why?

– It seems that poor environment, stressful early experience and a lack of relationships with supportive adults are at the core of the issue. This is why early childhood programs should target not only the children, but also their parents and caregivers. According to research, such measures have efficient and persistent effects on children’s health and development, and thereby on the outcome of the nation as a whole.
