On the left side of the ring, there is the Professional Association of Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) which criticizes the overemphasis on the three-Rs and asserts that preschoolers need more time to play in order to develop their emotional and social skills before starting formal schooling. On the right side of the ring, there is the British Department for Education saying that, since a third of children start school without basic language and communication skills - not being "school ready" - they need good quality early years education, especially those from low income backgrounds. So, who is right? The answer is evident: both!
