– While reading at home with children is key to their kindergarten preparation, about 50 percent of them start school with insufficient reading skills, due to a lack in early literacy development at home.

– When entering kindergarten, many children still don’t understand that any printed word has a meaning, are unable to name letters, don’t know initial letter sound, and are therefore at high risk in matters of reading comprehension. Many parents, for their part, neglect reading with their children, believing that kindergarten teachers will do this job. When it’s probably been too late.
