To develop properly, infants need experiences and activities that stimulate the different parts of their brain and the wiring of its nearly 100 billion neurons. During the period they are learning to talk, in particular, babies benefit immensely from close and repeated interactions with mom or dad.

When parents talk to babies, they instinctively use this rhythmic and high-pitched tone that specialists call “parentese”. Using this typical style of pitch help the baby to faster understand the connections between the words and the objects they represent. Even if parentese is the right way to talk to infants, there is no reason not to use a large, complex and constantly extending vocabulary with them.
