–  When talking to children, Australian educators generally prefer to use the words “penis” and “vagina”, instead of slang words like “peepee” or “twinkle”, to name private body parts. However, some people can be embarrassed when their kids use this kind of vocabulary in front of other people. As a consequence, many many parents continue to transmit their sense of discomfort to their offspring through weird speech alternatives.

– According to Professor Rosemary Coates, a sexologist from Curtin University in Perth, the use of euphemisms to name genitals may set the children up for later problems. This is why she recommends to teach the correct words, such as penis and vulva, straight along with words like eyes, ears or nose.
