Oh, this topic is a complete can of worms! I think you will always come up against people with different ideas and values and I think life is easiest if you gravitate towards parents with similar ideas. Don't worry about the biscuit - everything in balance is completely fine and that women's problem is that nothing is in balance, she is an extremist and breast-feeding children who talk and have a full set of teeth is just not on.

children must be made to realise from an early age that it is not their God-given right to have privileges. I still think Tommy Jordan is a bit extreme, though.

This article reminds me of an except from one of my economics books explaining the salary disparity between women and men. The author (Thomas Sowell) argues that motherhood is the reason gender salary inequities develop.

I do like the proposed policy changes that might help equalize things. Women should not be punished for wanting to become mothers.

The food is love. I'm an Italian-American mother of six. When my kids come home I make the foods they love the best. In our house it's ravioli not manicotti. Apple pie and escorole soup with little meatballs are close to top of the list, too.

"In fact, children who were introduced to solid foods by feeding themselves preferred carbohydrates over all other types of foods, with a preference rating of 1.82, with 1 being the highest rating and 5 the lowest, while spoon-fed babies preferred sweets, with a rating of 1.81, the researchers reported online in BMJ Open."

"sweets" are carbohydrates. I'm not sure I see the difference between spoon fed babies and those who started on finger foods. Why would it be important to start one form of feeding over another if everyone prefers sugar in the end?

So if I teach my child all these things, what's the point in sending them to school? And counting to 20 is the new "mainstream"? The only thing my child has learned from school is bad behavior. Maybe and hopefully, other schools are different. I learned my ABC's IN Kindergarten and did just fine. I feel society is teaching our children to grow up too fast, thinking they can make "adult" decisions at 12. Just not happy with the school system in general, sorry for the rant.

I actually started Mom Fuse when I was pregnant and on bedrest, I continued with the site while I was staying at home with our newborn twins and found it to be very relaxing and something I loved doing on my downtime, even to this day.

What frustrates me is how much we new mom's are taken advantage of. We are given misinformation so that somebody else can profit, and it is our children who ultimately lose.

I feel strongly that we should be told the truth about things even if it inconveniences us.

I think ultimately our judgement of others comes from hoping that we are doing it right and they are not. Not that we want them to be wrong, but that we want our child to have the best care possible.

Another benefit of blogging is that so many mothers are able to turn their blogs into platforms, and then turn the platforms into books. That's what I did, and it's been so rewarding--emotionally and financially!

"...but I'm so much more comfortable knowing that she's gonna make those mistakes at 19, not 13..."

This just doesn't make sense. I think I liked Tiger Mother better when she was consistent.
